United has several different types of business class seating, including the new lie-flat long haul business class seat that has been fully retrofitted in the B747 and 767 aircrafts and is 22% complete on the B777 aircrafts. The new seat replaces the old cradle style with a lie-flat seat that reclines to a full 6ft 4in bed. Customers on board the retrofitted aircrafts will also have a 15.4" video screen with nine channels and a three course meal with wine. To see the seat plans for the newly configured aircraft, click on the aircraft with (new seats) indicated, such as the B747-400 (new seats).

A few points about the new seats. They are both forward and backward facing, something that those used to flying BA ClubWorld will be used to, but which might be an issue with those who find travelling backwards a little odd. Also, when the seats are fully reclined (fully flat), only certain seats have unimpeded access to the aisle without someone climbing over you. If you are in a window seat you will be climbing over the person next to you, and if you are in the aisle seat, you might be disturbed by someone doing just that.

The old seats offer a 60-inch pitch and a 150-degree recline, but do not go flat. On Premium Transcontinental flights from New York to Los Angeles and San Francisco, older-style business class seats are used. Amenities include hand-held DVD players and upgraded meals.
