Thomas Cook's long-haul economy product on its Airbus A330s is better than scheduled carriers in terms of legroom. All these aircraft offer a basic 33-inch seat pitch, two inches more than British Airways or Virgin Atlantic.
If you are travelling with a tour operator, the level of service you receive on board will vary, but expect to pay for drinks at least. If you are booking flight-only, you will need to pre-order and pay for a meal. This will cost £17 for the return flight. There is more bad news when it comes to checking in baggage, as one bag up to 20kg will cost £38 for flights of more than seven hours and those to Gambia.
Seating a family of four together, with seats numbers given out at the airport, will cost £80 for the return journey. If you bought your ticket through a tour operator and want to choose your seat online, that will cost a family £40.
Exit seats are an extra £80 return per adult.

We arrived at Gatwick early and were asked if we would like to upgrade for an extra £20 per passenger. For this you get to wait in the VIP... more
