Overall it's up to SQ standard. The Business seat is unsurpassed by any other airlines. Onyly, the lounge in London LHR is not good as other SQ hub. And the food from LHR too. The food are better from SIN, even CDG.

Frequentflyer01 flew Singapore Airlines Economy (29/04/2012 19:10)

Today was meant to be my 4th trip from UK to Singapore in 14 months.

I foolishly decided to book a ticket with Singapore Airlines even though it cost nearly 500 pounds for a single ticket, counting on its previous great customer service. It turned out to be the worst decision in over 20 years of flying.

I was returning to Singapore after a long absence. My movers had accidentally left a number of things unpacked the night before flying and having no weighing scales and a looming exam in 10 days, turned up at Manchester Airport with an overweight hand luggage full of my dismantled computer parts and books more than an hour before departure.

There were 2 counters open, one with first class written over it and the other internet checking. I went to the latter to be redirected to a security queue and after 10 minutes was told that that was the wrong queue and then redirected to yet another wrong queue.

Eventually, I went to the counter with first class written over it. The woman ( calling her a lady would be too inaccurate) weighed my checked-in luggage and told me that I had to move them to another counter as the flight was nearly ready for boarding. She then found my hand luggage overweight and just told me that I had to abandon it and even proceeded to make me put my prada handbag on the not quite clean weighing belt.

There was no attempt on her part to give me any options and even though I informed her that I was moving to Singapore and could not just leave my bag with my friend who turned up, especially with my books needed for my impending exam. She informed me that I had no time to partially unpack my hand luggage.

We had to ask her about the cost of the excess luggage which she reluctantly provided. When asked about upgrading to business class, she informed me that that was not an option! She just kept insisting that I should not fly that day after my friend mentioned that I had a flexible ticket.

She asked for a customer officer to approach so that she could take me off the flying list. It was only when we asked her again about upgrading that the customer officer offered that it would cost another 1400 pounds. At this point, the first woman still kept insisting that it was not possible to check in another 20kg even with upgrading. We found her attitude so appalling that we decided not to fly that day.

Fortunately my dog who was due to fly out with Qantas the next day had also postponed for a week.

In fact it would have cost me a lot less to fly with another airline and paid for the excess luggage. At the customer service counter, there was a lot of mention of extra charges if I were to rebook (not mentioned BEFORE taking me off the flight) and a lot of mention of different class, etc.

I had a fully flexible ticket valid for a year but was made to feel like I had bought the ticket for 20 pounds! However, it was the whole attitude of the first woman behind the counter that put us off. We saw her going for her break about 2 minutes later so evidently was trying to get rid of us so that she could go for a break. Helpfulness is not a word in her vocabulary.

My opinon is that if I had to do it again, I would travel with ANY other airline but never again with Singapore Airlines. What a letdown.

FrustratedRegistration flew Singapore Airlines Business, on a B777-200 (Config.1) (07/11/2011 10:39)

Check in was deserted though took some time due to a messed up booking which deserves its own whole page.

The Silver Kris lounge in Changi was disappointing given the general high reputation of SQ. Dingy, monolithic and busy. The food and drink were pretty good however; self-pour Champagne and a sushi bar were my favourites.

Being bored with the lounge I boarded early. This flight to Bangkok was during the terrible floods so the plane was very quiet; only 3 out of 26 biz class seats were taken.

After boarding we were offered a choice of drinks (not just the usual Champagne, OJ or water) and I was showered with newspapers and magazines.

The cabin on this 777 looked a little old fashioned but was clean and well maintained. With 7 seats across and a huge seat pitch it was almost incomparable with the stingy offering we would see for a flight of this duration in Europe. Comfortable cradle seats offered arm-rest videos with noise cancelling headphones and we were offered socks and eye shades.

After take-off we had drinks then the meal (some airlines on a sector of this length are getting into a nasty habit of doing it the other way round). I had "booked the cook" and thoroughly enjoyed my Thai green fish curry plus starter and dessert. The crew were incredibly attentive though admittedly there were very few of us to look after.

We landed into Bangkok on time; this was a through flight so I can't comment on the baggage.

A very impressive flight with what I would call long-haul hospitality on short haul duration.

FrustratedRegistration flew Singapore Airlines Business, on a A380 (Config 2) (07/11/2011 10:23)

This was a connecting flight so I cannot comment on the check-in process at ZRH.

SQ use the Swiss lounge in ZRH which is quite nice, though the food selection was poor. It has "the longest serviced lounge bar in the world" at one level which is quite impressive though it was rather quiet at 10:00 on a Saturday morning!

I boarded near the end, though not late, and despite the flight being almost full I strolled on as if I were the only passenger.

First impressions of the A380 are fabulous, though novices like me should note that the seat rows are displayed on LEDs on the seats themselves; I spent ages stumbling around gazing at the overhead lockers in vain.

I was offered the usual champagne, orange juice or water and we pushed back about 10 minutes late.

The seats are huge and upholstered in soft leather. They combine a sense of space and of privacy. Some have argued that they are too big but a leather bolster is provided to support you plus a large cushion. As a seat the only criticism I would offer is that the leg rest (which is not a component of the bed) is a little inadequate.

After take off drink orders were taken on the ground so appeared swiftly. The food was excellent as were the wines and the service was very attentive though when their routine is interrupted (they ran out of one wine) things do seem to fall apart.

I tried the "on-board business software" which allows the passenger to bring his own data on a USB stick and, presumably if you also bring a keyboard, I think it can allow you to update documents. In fact in my case I brought music and pictures and it hung after about 15 seconds browsing. Lucky I was on holiday and didn't have to process the spreadsheet upon which my job depended! My IFE also froze totally in the morning. I reported this so that it wouldn't do the same for the next passenger, though I had lost interest, and the crew did seem genuinely concerned.

With a little help from the stewardess the seat was turned into a bed. I was concerned that perhaps I would be conscious of sleeping in a Z bend but that wasn't true, and this is where all that width comes into play. If you want to curl up then you can, which is not possible in many "coffin" offerings today.

I left my Do Not Disturb light on but awoke before the service started. You have a choice of a full breakfast at Landing-2:30 or continental at Landing-1:30. I was surprised to see the service being started at Landing-3:00 and all lights on full which would have annoyed me if I was asleep.

We landed into Changi on-time and the bags came off swiftly. I think my biggest criticism of SQ would be the lack of an arrival lounge.

Overall a superb flight. Note that LHR-SIN on a codeshare of Swiss via ZRH is about the half the price of the direct flight.

My mother won't make the Star Alliance status because of a sytem glich from singapore Airlines....

In September 2011, The Passenger made a booking for a flight from Singapore to Maldives with Singapore Airline.

Before booking her ticket, Mr. xxx (assistant) call to ensure if she would’ve book this ticket, it would’ve been an eligible fare with Singapore Airlines to earn frequent flyers miles. The agent confirmed that this type of ticket would’ve been eligible. The Passenger booked the ticket along with The accompanist. Before paying the ticket, an option offering the passenger to view the reservation by sending an e-mail is offered. On this confirmation, we could see the ‘’Y’’ booking class (eligible class for earning miles with Aeroplan and star alliance members). The Passenger then went ahead with the payment for final confirmation of the ticket.

The accompanist and The Passenger did receive the ticket by e-mail. The ticket is showing a ‘’Y’’ class. The accompanist called Singapore Airlines on the 19th of September as well to confirm that the class showing on the ticket was an eligible fare for miles accumulation. The agent at Singapore Airlines said ''Yes''.

The accompanist ensured on both ways during the checking process that Singapore Airline had the Aeroplan number of The Passenger for miles accumulation. The Agent in Singapore as well as the agent in Male, Maldives, confirms that: ‘’yes she would get her miles’’.

The Passenger only book this flight with Singapore Airline because she would get her miles in her Aeroplan account.

On October 7th 2011, The accompanist Called Aeroplan to confirm they would send a request to Singapore airlines to add the miles because they where not reflecting in The Passenger’s account.

On October 17th 2011, The accompanist called both Aeroplan and Singapore Airline to make sure the request was handled properly and the points will get in her account. Both companies said they would take care of it. The accompanist also send an e-mail to Singapore Airlines.

On October the 21st 2011, Mr. Guillaume The accompanist call Aeroplan. Aeroplan answer him that Singapore Airlines refuse to give the points and they did not understand as it was a ‘’Y’’ class. They said they would send a request again because The Passenger should get her miles credited in her account.

The accompanist then wrote an e-mail to Singapore Airline again. Singapore responded by saying it was not booked on a ‘’Y’’ class. They said that it was a system glitch and it was showing Y class at the time of booking but in their hands, it was not a ‘’Y’’ class.

He also wrote to Star Alliance about the issue but star alliance said that they are not related to the booking of airline nor miles programs. Singapore denies their responsibilities. Aeroplan said I should call Air Canada because they handle the Program, Air Canada stays unresponsive.

After many communication between all parties, there Is no solutions.

The Passenger will not achieve her Gold Status Early recognition for this year and neither for next year because she did not get the miles from Singapore Airlines in her Aeroplan Account. The food is bad and they lost a luggage to top the story

Singapore Airlines 777-200 Riyadh to Singapore via Dubai - Business Class

SQ is well recognized for being a world class airline with a large route network and an outstanding hub at Changi airport, an excellent facility to visit, let alone connect through. SQ has begun serving RUH for a few years now which has since been well received. Unfortunately, given the overall shortcomings of RUH and it's services the check in and boarding process (hired agents from an independent supplier rather than full SQ staff) was sub optimal to SQ standards.

Check in
At T1 had a line for premium class passengers which took about 10 minutes as 3 passengers were ahead of me, I received the Boarding pass for my flight as well as onward flight to Manila. An invitation to the premium lounge was also presented.

Lounge
The single lounge in T1 is for all operating airlines and is well below standard as it small and gets crowded quickly (many flights depart around the same time in T1) with regular seats and substandard catering in the form of cold sandwiches and 4-6 warm snacks along the heaters. A collection of standard cold and hot drinks. 2 computers with slow internet and no dedicated free wifi at the time (there is free wifi throughout the airport for a fee that can be purchased from any of the cafes throughout the departure or arrival halls). The lounge has no windows which really gives much to be desired.

Boarding
Acceptable but not prioritized - typical of Saudi airports.

Timing
Departure and arrival was on time, including a 60 minute layover in Dubai where we were requested to remain on board while the crew were changed and passengers boarded.

Greeting
Warm smiles all around from every single flight attendant throughout the cabin - once the flight begins the FA always addressed me with my prefix and last name. Whenever I call for assistance the FA would kneel down and maintain eye contact with a smile and a can do attitude.

Seating
This aircraft exhibited the old fashioned J class recliner seats with foot rests which worked properly. Acceptable seat width but I personally was hoping for one of the newer J class seats.

Reading materials
SilverKris magazine, Kris shop, safety card and sanitary bag were all well placed in a plastic bag. A collection of variable magazine were on hand on the small cupboard at the aft of the J class cabin, however the FA would present the selection to you by hand.

IFE KrisWorld
The IFE screens were small but worked properly. The world famous KrisWorld AVOD system was a joy to operate, user friendly with much to sample, I personally enjoyed the Documentary selection available.

Amenity Kit
In a magenta green fabric pouch containing the usual eye cover, socks, too brush and paste and ear plugs. The container was disappointing as although larger than usual, it would have been suitable for economy class.

Catering
Nicely appointed menus were distributed before takeoff as well as drinks. On the first leg to Dubai (1 hour 30 minutes) a wide selection of drinks were offered as well as made to order alcoholic cocktails and warm drinks (e.g. Hot chocolate and double espresso) . A snack was then presented on fine china of a gourmet sandwich and salad. On the second leg to Singapore, the same was provided however a large 3 course dinner this time, after the FA would have took a note of your preferences and would bring it to your table separately. You are never rushed to finish your course before the other one is presented. Prior to landing a nice hearty warm snack was also provided in the same manner.
My short video: http://www.youtube.com/user/hmasurg?feature=mhee#p/u/103/b1LfEV31L8k

Toilets
Are always clean, I have noticed the FAs would regularly make rounds on the toilets to make sure all is in order.

Arrival
At T2 on time, with smooth disembarkation and once again a warm farwell from the crew including the pilot who was in full uniform at the exit door, always a nice and respectable touch.

Changi airport
Although T1 and T2 are old they are well equipped, extremely clean with many workers who are always around for questions and support. An excellent array of shopping outlets. All the terminals are interconnected by walking or using the automated tram. The new T3 is airy with nice furniture, art work, a shopping center and a botanical garden. There are free electric message chairs throughout the airport - a wonderful touch.
My short video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OS6jz8dOirQ

T2 SilverKris Lounge
A large area with many computers connected to the internet, a wide selection of drinks and snacks (hot and cold) excellent shower facilities which are well maintained and equipped. Sadly it’s location renders it windowless with no views of the tarmac.

VERDICT
An excellent airline with attentive service that is “consistent” which I would recommend (even in economy class). Although it can get pricy, from RUH the prices are comparable to the competition. If you fly star alliance frequently, make an effort to fly SQ during your journey - miles that are worth it.

The new seats certainly dont impress. Difficult to get a comfortable position when seated, the seat has limited adjustment, you can't get it into a lounger type position as you could with the older seats. Quite enclosed it seem all too close for comfort. Its either "sit up and beg" or have the seat in its bed position. The flat bed is OK if you are a smaller person, probably designed for the averaged sized Singaporean, but those of us over six feet tall cannot stretch out as there isnt enough room. When trying this diagonally it was still too short. The foot well from the seat behind also make it difficult to get comfortable. Didnt live up to expectation, disappointing. Service was OK, the small meals werent that exciting, IFE froze up and rebooted itself, movies and music selection average. Wont be in a hurry to fly SQ again.

Manchester-Melbourne 2/6/2011. Economy Class seat 49H on leg 1 and seat 34H on leg 2. Total journey time is 25hrs 15mins with a 1hr 10min transit in Munich and 2hr 40min plane change in Singapore. The transit in Munich is seemless. You disembark plane with hand luggage, sit at gate or explore a very modern airport then board at same gate.

Cabin - Seat are very comfortable and well equipped with AVOD, foot rest adjustable head rest with winglettes. Leg room is 32 inches or 34 inches if your take out 3 magazines. Seat width and pitch is notably better/wider than Qantas BA Emirates and on par with Qatar and Cathay. Rear Economy cabin is brighter and more pleasant colour than forward economy cabin. This commences as a pleasant day flight then cabin lights are dimmed about 4 hours into journey.

Meal Service - Food service was plentiful and high quality on all legs. Although did note final leg SIN-MEL had less extensive meal service as classed regional not long haul.

MAN-MUC (1hr 50min) commenced with newspapers before takeoff. Hot towels 15 mins after take off then full bar service followed by brunch. This consisted of tasty cheese wrap or smoked chicken sandwich, green leaf side salad, fruit salad, small cake, drink of your choice (I had Singapore Sling) tea/coffee all served professionally and with a smile. More drinks were offered before clearing trays. Intensive service considering short flight.

MUC-SIN (11hrs 15 mins) commenced with standard hot towels and full drink and snacks service 1 hour into flight. This was then followed by full meal service. The tray held tasty salmon starter salad, fish curry, breads, dessert, cheese and crackers, tea/coffee and proper stainless steal cutlery. Further alcoholic drinks and hot drinks were offered during meal time. This was very tasty and fulfilling meal. Chicken casserole was the other choice. Friendly flight attendants walked through cabin every hour with water and snacks basket. At about 6 hours into flight baskets of sandwiches and wraps were carried through cabin followed shortly by baskets of chocolate, small cakes and crisps. Alcoholic or hot drinks were available from galley or call button at any time. 1 hr 45 min before descent hot towels and full breakfast service started. There was a western and asian option. My tray held, warm bread roll, jam, butter, fruit salad, hot omelette, chicken sausage, tomatoes and mushrooms. juice, water. tea/coffee. This was very tasty indeed and a nice wake up call.

SIN-MEL (7hr) had two meal services. Breakfast served shortly after take off. I took asian option. My tray held, refreshing congee, very tasty noodles, fruit salad, water, juice, tea/coffee and small biscuit wafer. There was only limited juice and cold drinks served. Many passengers were requesting alcoholic drinks. The friendly flight attendants spent a lot of wasted time zipping back to the galley to fulfill requests. A full drinks service should overcome this problem. Water and juice were served through out the day time flight. Alcholic drinks were on request only. The next food service commenced 1hr 45 mins before descent. This was a lunch service despite our destination time being 7pm at night. My tray consisted of only water, tea/coffee and chicken casserole. The other option was fish. Alcoholic drinks were offered but strangely after the meal. This final meal service seemed to be lacking compared to service on flights so far.

Service Levels- You could not fault the cabin crews level of professionalism and constant smiles. Every request was met with a smile. The flight attendant spilt juice on my lap and fussed over me very much. She later spilt water on my lap and was very embarrassed and had her lead stewardess apologise profusely to me. it was only an accident yet I was impressed with the crews reaction to this.

Overall - I would highly recommend Singapore airlines. This is a long haul flight they managed to make durable if not somewhat pleasant, a rarity in most economy class cabins. Qantas, BA and Emirates most certainly can learn from the levels of service and quality of product. Legroom is biggest gripe of any long haul traveller and I found SQ's 777 product offering to be very comfortable indeed. The AVOD system was easy to navigate, fast to respond with plenty of movies, shows, games music and surprisingly e-library publications available to entertain

Was on board SQ346 in June 2010 from Singapore to Zurich. Boarding was delayed. The flight was further delayed for about an hour or more after boarding due to technical problems. Inflight entertainment was affected but available to business class passengers. Heard complaints from economy class passengers that inflight entertainment was unavailable for the entire flight.

The seat was extremely spacious for sitting but not so for sleeping despite being a flat bed. Due to the design and length of the bed, a tall person would have to sleep diagonally with their feet placed in the small box-like compartment in a locked in position. The wideness of the seat width was an overkill and could have been reduced while giving more room for seat length.

Food and drink was of excellent quality and service was impeccable as usual for Singapore Airlines.

I am writing about my experience flying Suite class on the A380.

It seems perverse to criticize the seating of Singapore aaaaairlines flagship product and the following should be noted; I am tall and obese; the suites do not have overhead storage and carry on luggage must stowed in front of the seat, against the partion between the suite in front of you and on the floor. If you are travelling with the largest permitted size of carry on and happen to be tall, then this stowage arrangement imposes a severe limitation on your leg room so much so that the cabin crew member escorting me to my suite offered on his own volition to store my carry-on case in a vacant suite. The seating placement in the suite means that you are place about 50 cms from the window and your downward vision is restricted. That being said the seats provided are the most spacious I have experienced.

As a bed i found the bed rather hard but certainly softer than its equivalent in the Boeing 777 300 ER.

I found the flight crew could not be faulted for their attentiveness or pleasantness.

Meals were excellent and on the leg from Melbourne to Singapore Chef's signature menu is also provided, this is a new addition and significantly improves the menu choice.

In flight entertainment was good as far as film selection went but my taste for Opera was not satisfied because of the limited choice.

Puntuality could not be faulted and passengers were kept informed of the flight's take off procedures as they progressed.

Baggage I found ,to my surprise, that atnbagge collection that it had been given priority delivery.

The enjoyment (or otherwise) of a long-haul flight begins in the departure lounge. At Changi's T3, the Silverkrys Lounge is large, has free wifi internet and seriously good food. The curries rival anything available in-flight or in town. The only irritant is having to ask for champagne when all other drinks are self-pours. The showers and wash facilities are better than most airlines' First Class. On entry to the lounge, I was told how many minutes walking it would need to my departure gate. They were correct and I arrived at the gate in time to walk straight on to the aircraft. Perfect start.

Having been seated, escorted by a stewardess who insisted on stowing my carry-on for me, I was immediately offered a glass of juice or champagne followed quickly by the beautifully produced menu, a choice of magazines and a smiling enquiry as to what cocktail I would like after take-off. The Singapore sling was duly delivered withing minutes of the seat-belt sign being switched off.

This level of attention continued throughout the flight.

The food was well up to standard without being truly exceptional. Most disappointing were the oriental dishes which lacked spiciness. A sambal on the side would have helped. Snacks were available at any time, though how anyone could need them mystifies me. The wines were limited: French or Italian whites (and reds) none of great quality with the Valpolicella rather a let-down. There should always be one new-world wine on the list. Pourings of cognac were simply too generous and in inappropriate glasses.

The seat is less than perfect, being wider than it is deep and lacking lumbar support. It reclines well, though, and when converted to a bed is excellent. A window seat (A or K) is essential for the single traveller who wants privacy and the smaller forward B Class cabin is preferred for the reduction in movement. 5A or 5K are the best.

The in-flight entertainment is lavish but showing its age a bit. A good choice of films is let down by the inability to choose whether or not to have sub-titles in ones own language. Being partially deaf, this spoils my enjoyment of films. The games are overwhelmingly mindless zapping with very little to challenge the intellect.

After some 12.5 hours in the air, we landed exactly on time and with prioritised baggage handling which really works there is little waiting around.

SIA are simply the best airline in the world and any critical comment should be seen in this context. I am lucky enough to fly regularly to and from Singapore and would use no other airline both to and around the orient.

Singapore Airlines Business Class seat configuration is worst compare to American Airlines LAX-LHR seat plan. Business Class located upper deck 747-400 . I was assigned at 11B . The seat configuration is similar to Superior Economy Class seat. I the seat can not recycle to the flat like American Airlines .

I had problem with coronary heart disease and cervical discography I followed up with Singapore Airlines instruction to have Medical Fitness for Air Travel ( MEDA) . Unfortunately Singapore Airlines refused accommodate at all at the airport staff supervisor was very rude and ruthless. With my eyes saw the rest of ground staff spread out after supervisor started rude against my face.

Told me " you must quit to travel , cancel this trip immediately or pay extra fees for better seat configuration at later flight on the same day" I told very politely, " are you going to accommodate my needs?" The supervisor simply walked away from the desk and stayed inside .

The other ground staff assistance becoming middle of person between me and the supervisor. I found Singapore Airlines staff 100% unprofessional manner. I read his lips telling his staff accommodation " get the hell out of here and put him to the plane and I can not help him period understand" so the result the lady took me to to the plane with out complimentary to invite to the business class lounge at LAX Tom Bradley International Airport. Inside the plane with 4 crews escorted me to the upper deck and told me to click the best and stay there. It is very scary experience I ever seen in my lifetime. Again the seat are very poor configuration. I promised never fly SQ again in the lifetime. I mean . The whole flight I been depressed, because of Singapore Airlines treated me very badly and demoralization being my deafness. I can not hide myself anymore. it hurts me when I see the big board " Singapore Airlines voted best Airlines year 2009"

Shortly after take-off from Singapore on June 28th there was an awful, extremely loud repetitive whining noise that sounded like the wheels were trying to retract but couldn't. The noise lasted for about 5 minutes - passengers in the cabin were blocking their ears and my 5 year old son was very scared (as was I - a nervous flyer). I can't find any explanation on the internet for this noise as all searches come up saying the 777 is a very quiet plane. I fly long haul from Asia to NZ several times a year and have never experienced this noise before. There was no explanation for this noise by the crew and it put my in a rather nervous frame of mind. Once the plane was at cruising altitude and had been flying for some time, I decided to try and watch some TV to take my mind off of it and was shocked that there was no in-demand TV! I haven't been on a plane for years that didn't have on-demand and couldn't believe that this flight didn't. Not only that, but the in-flight entertainment mag was for planes that did have in-demand TV and the kids channels were all channel numbers over 100 but this plane only went up to channel 98 so no TV for my son! This is not good enough at all in my opinion for a 9+ hour flight when all other airlines flying similar routes do have in-demand TV. The food was mediocre compared to other airline food although they did bring around regular drinks of water that not all airlines are so good at doing. When I arrived in Christchurch both of my suitcases were damaged to the point of being unusable. I'm not sure if it is the fault of the baggage handlers or due to being defective - luckily they have a 10 year warranty (only 1 year old) so hopefully I will be able to have them replaced. All in all, a disappointing flight compared to other airlines that fly from Asia to New Zealand.

The comfort of the seat however is very poor with passengers both tall and short (I was part of a large group travelling) complaining they could not get comfortable. SYD-SIN-SYD in Economy on the A380. Check-in at Sydney was very slow despite using web-check-in. Boarding process was orderly. In-flight service on outbound sector was excellent (probably the best I have experienced on Singapore Airlines). Return sector service was still good but not on the same level as the outgoing flight. Food was very good and much better than expected given my disappointing experience last time. IFE was excellent, especially with the much bigger screens on the new aircraft. I don't like their new seats though. The seat is too hard, there is less recline and less legroom compared to their older style economy seats. Sitting is fine but trying to sleep in one of these new seats is almost impossible. The seat reclines but also slides forward a bit. There is no lumbar support, which makes the recline position quite uncomfortable. Bags were delivered promptly, especially at Changi airport. All flights on time.

A380 top deck is very spacious (seat 20A) and the business class seats and facilities on board are outstanding. The A380 is very quiet and by far the most comfortable and relaxing aircraft I have ever been on. Excellent food and great service on this leg. Efficient staff and good food. Flight was on time. Cons - T3 Business class lounge is poort by most standards, small and dark with basic facilities. I left the lounge and preferred to sit in the main terminal concourse. The B777-300ER was new and spacious but it is a noisy beast. Sitting in Seat 19K there is a lot of engine noise and vibration at cruise especially noticeable when putting head down to sleep. Surprised by noise levels. PekoePeony flew Singapore Airlines Business, on a B777-300ER (15/04/2010 03:13)

Recently I flew from San Francisco to Singapore and back in Singapore Airlines' business class seats which converted to beds. This was my first time flying Singapore Airlines business class, and I had heard much about its vaunted reputation for comfort and service so had high expectations.

SEATS: I was lucky both times to have a window seat, which meant I had no neighbor (the plane had a 1-2-1 configuration) and could also enjoy the beautiful views. I was a bit surprised that the seats themselves looked a bit dated, but they were extremely wide which meant that I could sit cross-legged or with my legs tucked under me while in the seated position. The leg rest did not raise very high in the seated position, but that was easily rectified by manually converting the seat into a bed. As a bed, it was long enough for me to lie diagonal fully stretched on my back, but I'm 5' 6". Best of all, it was wide enough for comfortable sleeping in the fetal position, which most other airlines cannot accomodate. The bed itself was a bit hard, but it's likely not practical to expect a hotel bed comfort from an airplane seat :)

FOOD: The biggest disappointment with SIA's business class was the food. Honestly the Western food was generally of mediocre quality, despite having "name" chefs design the menu. The Asian menu was definitely better, but except for the one excellent congee dish, overall still below the standards of Air France or Lufthansa business class meals. The wine list was well chosen, though, and they have an excellent tea selection, as well as interesting mixed cocktails, so kudos on the beverages.

SERVICE: On the full flight from San Francisco to Singapore, service was very average, but on the mostly-empty return journey, it was significantly improved.

IN-FLIGHT ENTERTAINMENT: Overall while the selection wasn't extensive, there was enough to satisfy passengers for the duration of the long flight. There seemed to be about 20 American movies offered, and 8-10 each of European and Asian movies. However the map feature didn't offer the level of detail which seems standard in other airlines.

OVERALL: The food should definitely be improved, but the wide, fully-flat beds are the big selling point of this airline and will make them my choice for long-haul trips to Asia.

A specifically refurbished aircraft used daily from SIN-Sydney. Noisy engines to this aircraft, noisy cabin, seats too low set down, head comes above back rest when sitting! Angle lie flat leather seats, you slip down unlike fabric seats. No privacy between sets, so when reclined, if you turn you get the breath of the person next to you, not very nice. Shell of the seat is approx 6 inches gap each side of you, don't drop anything, or you have to crawl from the front into the shell, or staff use a coat hanger to do this! Cushion between upper & mid seat, big gap to plug when extended, you hip goes through the gap. Watch the cabin curtains, they need as diagonal approach into the cabin, people colliding all flight, or bumping their sides on the corner. This aircraft & cabin, are a complete let down after the new Business class on A380 / 777-300ER. Even the old style Raffles class seat is better. SQ now regard this as a Regional service, & i wont fly this aircraft or service, overnight, it is not suitable. they also only serve ONE meal now dinner or breakfast you cant have both for average 8 hr overnight flight. I Don't recommend this service, very poor compared to all other Airline options.

I always prefer taking the window seat whenever I fly regardless of class. This gives me the joy of looking out into the beautiful sky during the day or see the lights during landing/take-off at night.

However on the Business Class section of SQ's B777-300, taking the window seat in any row poses a problem because once the passengers in front of you and the one beside you decide to sleep all throughout the flight and put out those "Dont Disturb Me" request with the flight attendant (which happened during my recent flight!) you will practically be trapped in your seat the moment the seat in front is reclined and the passenger beside you decides the same and lifts his legs up. Getting out of your seat to go to the lavatory will be like mission impossible unless you wake up your fellow passengers.

Note that Row 11 which is the first row in the Business Class section is windowless so this is not an option for people like me who prefer windows rather than direct aisle access during flight. So the only recommendation I have for those who seek comfort and a window view is to select a seat with no one sitting beside you which you may get to have from time to time if you are lucky.

Another feedback on this flight is that while I admire Singapore Airlines a lot with its impeccable service and knowing that its an airline with the youngest fleet in the industry, the inflight entertaintment on this B777-300 aircraft is something the airline needs to look into. The TV screen is small and the video resolution is very poor which makes you feel like you are riding coach. The movie and audio selection is also less than what I had in my earlier flight (SQ917 using a B777-200ER) which had the Video and Audio On Demand options too. Even the remote handset can easily be noticed to be older and needs replacement having very few buttons to press unlike those found in the B777-200ER version.

This is the first flight out from Bangkok that leaves at 8.30am with 11.55am as the ETA. Check in was swift and smooth. We boarded at 8.05am and I chose seat 36A which is a window seat. Push back was sharp at 8.30 and 8 minutes later, we were in the air and climbing out of Bangkok.

Food: Breakfast with two choices. As I've tried their chicken with noodles on the same flight a week before, I opted for fish with potatoes. Neat display and sufficient for Economy. I noticed that menus were not handed out, which is a default practice for all flights departing from Singapore.

The plane: Is a Boeing 777-200, the older generation SQ rides. Super clean and shiny on the outside but perhaps slightly old on the inside, but a wide-body nonetheless. For this sector, expect slight turbulence the moment the plane arrives into the Gulf of Thailand. But since this is a wide-body aircraft, minimal movement and a comfortable ride for sure. (I've flown this sector using a B-737 and it can get really bumpy).

In-Flight Entertainment: No one can fault the world renowned Krisworld inflight entertainment system. By the time I finished breakfast, we had another hour of flight left and just flew past Kota Bharu, Kelantan in Malaysia. As the plane whizzed through the Malaysian sky, I had a great time listening to old tunes, classical masterpieces and latest love songs.

Investment: This was a promotion ticket, and a return journey was only THB 5800! The current promotion for October is THB 6690 return.

Conclusion: 1. For this price, it sure is better to fly a wide-body to ensure a comfortable ride, a hearty breakfast and the usual SQ-hospitality. 2. SQ flies 4 times daily from Bangkok to Singapore. Do check out their departure times and ticket prices at www.singaporeair.com. I booked mine less than 48 hours before departure, and CHEAPER than AirAsia or the other two low-cost airlines plying this route.

I must say that I was a bit dissapointed with my last trip on Singapore Airlines. I was flying on the brand new A340-500 with all-business class seats. There were only 37 people on board, but the service was not good.

I was absolutely appalled when I heard that they had run out of bottled water and fruits on the 16.5 hours flight from SIN-LAX.

Also, I was not fond of the newer seats. They reclined only slightly by scooting forward. The seat position was either upright or flat. It definately wasn't as versatile as the older SpaceBeds. When I was trying to sleep, I was too tall for the bed, and the foot well protruded into my shoulder space. If the plane was full, it would be chaos with everyone getting up to fold down their beds. An elderly person would not be able to make the bed.

That entire configuration is a flying failure

I flew last June09 from LHR-SIN-SYD vv. all in the A380. The aircraft is just great.

The noise level from the take-off to landing and in the whole journey was absolutely amazingly low almost quite comparing to other aircraft types I have flown before. The new business class is just fantastic. Finally an airline giving pax space to spread and relax in all direction wished without earning a strange look from your fellow travellers.

The full flat bed configuration help to sleep deeply. Noise reduction headphones are great and really useful. Entertainment system is definitely one of the best in the industry beside Emirates. Lots of films even in your own local language if available. Hundreds of different songs which you can compile to your own CD compilation-just great!

The food offerings and quality are as often very good. Book the Cook-is just recommendable as you get what you really want to eat and not just the rest on the menue. The service attitude of the crew are as expected very good. Of course there are some crew who are not that very hospitable, but you can really miss that out as during my four segment flights, it was hardly any faults to find. Amenity Kit consists of sock, earplugs and eyemask. Combs, toothbrush, facial creams etc. are available in the lavatories. But a nice decent amenity kit like with EK, EY or TK are for me a personal touch, especiall when they are packed with good and qualitative brands which you can really use and not just throw away because they smell terrible or just expired there date.

Actually I think what really upsets me during my flight from SIN-SYD was - it was a night flight arriving early in the morning in SYD. The second service should be a light breakfast or snack. But I was served with a piece of papaya and tasteless croissants( did not even bake or warmed properly). Luckily I was not that hungry, but for others who skiped the first service and expected a warm decent breakfast were absolutely dissappointed. One pax in my row just commented" hopely they have a decent breakfast offers in the NZ lounge"-he was flying to CHC and transiting in SYD. But overall with the best business class seat in the industry at the moment and consistant great service, it is still a great SQ flying experience

SINGAPORE AIRLINES HONG KONG SINGAPORE ECONOMY

I arrived at the airport rather early and had no need to queue for check-in. I opted for a window seat at the rear and was allocated 52a. Boarding was straightforward and once on board a flight attendant courteously escorted me direct to my seat. The legroom was pretty good and there were plenty of pillows and blankets already on the seats. The 3-3-3 configuration felt fairly roomy and I estimate the economy cabins were about 70% full on my flight. We took off more or less on schedule and within about 25 minutes of take-off the first drinks and snacks service was started, very efficiently too. Unfortunately the same can’t be said of the inflight entertainment, which was creaky and patchy, I eventually gave up and switched to my own iPod. This was obviously an older plane but on such a key route as HK-SIN I expected a little better, the gap between the new AVOD systems and the older ones is huge. Lunch was healthy and light as well as genuinely tasty, a smoked turkey coleslaw appetiser followed by a fillet of fish in chablis sauce. I opted to stick to the cheese and crackers rather than take a Haagen-Dazs ice cream but the portions were more than adequate. Disembarkation was easy enough and I find the Terminal 3 immigration lines to be about half as long as at the other terminals, I was through in little over 6 minutes. Overall a great flight. I’ve now flown in all three classes of SQ on different legs of this key HK-SIN routes and SQ is miles ahead of the competition.

Priority classes are boarded first. I was welcomed on board and directed to my seat 1A, a first for me at least. The flight attendant gently asked if I minded moving to another seat since the passenger next to me was very tired and simply wanted to sleep. No problem. Except for the fact that we were the only two passengers in the first-class cabin! Not sure how that seating arrangement was worked out but it clearly wasn’t a problem for me to move into 3A. With my fellow first-class passenger catching up on his beauty sleep, I had the always friendly Singapore attendants waiting on me hand and foot. When my soft-boiled eggs arrived for breakfast they were extremely runny but immediately the attendant offered to change them. It’s attention to details like that which keep Singapore Airlines at the top of the treee. Whatever refinements you make in technology, it's the basics of delivering service levels like that which show an eye for detail combined with concern for me as a passenger that just lift SQ into another level. A great flight made memorable by this airline’s simple touch.

excellent product with outstanding level of service. only glitch, seat could be a little softer when in a bed position, but this can be overcome by using the duvet as a mattress.

firstclassboi flew Singapore Airlines First, on a B747-400 (Config.1) (02/10/2008 11:40)

Singapore Airlines offer a reliable, high-quality product. Seats on the 747, 777-300ER and A380 are good. Those on the 777-200 and 777-300 are a bit of an embarrassment. It's odd to have effectively 4 different classes of First Class product.

Service is always professional and attentive, often verging on friendly with a good crew member and an empty cabin. You are never left wanting for anything. The food is rather variable and not of the greatest standard. I frequently find that I am struggling to find something that I'd like to eat, rather than on most airlines I have to choose between 3 that all sound lovely. SQ get around this with the Book The Cook enabling one to pre-order from a choice of maybe 10 menu items. It does rather prevent one from ordering based on how you feel at that moment, but the BTC is always good! The Dom/Krug choice always a highlight, but I find the remainder of the wines and the lack of a dessert wine to be disappointing.

So always the best service, but avoid the 777-200/300 on a flight of any length.

The new economy seats on SQ is much more comfortable. I went BCN-SIN return even if I'm big no problems.
