Economy seats on Boeing 747s have an adjustable winged headrest and a seat pitch of 34", very generous for this cabin. However, new Boeing 777s offer only 32 inches. The basic economy seat is a new ergonomic design with 6" recline and adjustable winged headrest.
ANZ's big innovation in economy has been to offer the Skycouch in new Boeing 777-300ERs. Introduced from spring 2011, the Skycouch is a fold-out design that is offered in the outer pairs of seats in the first 10 rows of the cabin. It is aimed at couples who wish to pay extra to stretch out, or couples with a small child.

NTarrant flew Air New Zealand Pacific Economy, on a B767-300ER
Check-in was extremely slow, taking 45 minutes from joining queue to getting to the desk. Two other flights to NZ were also checking in on this line. Flight was being called whilst finishing check-in, which meant a quick rush to the gate which seemed like miles away. One of the most spacious economy classes in the air. Seats have a hefty recline, and the 34" pitch makes a huge difference. Main meals of considerable quality still served in ceramic dishes. I have travelled on some flights where NZ's economy service was better than service I have experienced in business class cabins on Singapore Airlines, JAL, KLM and British Airways.... more
